Fortunately, Grog was able to fuse two trammels together and drive it into Vecna's body so Keyleth could read from the Tome of Isolation and banish him from the Prime Material Plane forever. Crafting a set of Trammels to drive into his body when they finally met with him face to face, at times it looked as though the heroes wouldn't succeed - and when one of the Trammels broke, they feared the worst. Vox Machina's task felt impossible at times, but they persisted. As they sought the knowledge and resources needed to take him out, the party met obstacles and resistance at every turn. Vecna's plans were far greater than Vox Machina could have dreamed. Along with the Remnant cultists, she was in the midst of performing a second ritual that would aid in Vecna's ascension to godhood. When Scanlan and Lionel Gayheart discovered a second ziggurat, Vox Machina infiltrated only to discover that, despite having watched her die at Cassandra de Rolo's hands, Delilah wasn't actually dead. The fact that the Briarwoods were nearly impossible to kill earns them a spot on the list. Sylas later came to take his revenge at Vex'ahlia and Percy's wedding, almost killing them both. Resurrected by Vecna, Delilah played a significant role in his ascension, and the party came head to head with her and Sylas repeatedly until finally taking Delilah out. Unfortunately, that was not the last Vox Machina saw of the Briarwoods.
During the battle, the party killed Sylas and captured Delilah, who was later executed by Cassandra de Rolo, ending their reign of terror in Whitestone. When they finally encountered Sylas and Delilah in Whitestone Castle, the fight led them underground, where they discovered a strange ziggurat. At the end of Critical Role’s first campaign, the renowned Vox Machina defeated the Whispered One, although his hand and eye ere taken in a twist of betrayal. These Prime Trammels, once attached to Vecna, will be used to draw and seal him beyond the Divine Gate through the Rites of Prime Banishment. Vox Machina followed and began taking out Briarwood allies, allowing Percy to cross names off his vengeance list. Vox Machina needs to forge Prime Trammels on the Core Anvil in The Allhammer’s forge, creating them from pure platinum and fragments of divinity collected from their various patrons.

Throughout the campaign, Vex was often been teased by the other members of the party for her greed, especially during shrewd negotiations with merchants, so it came as no surprise when she stole Gern's broom, transferred it into the Bag of Holding, then lied, telling him she accidentally dropped it into the lava around the portal.The Briarwoods played a key role in the destruction of the de Rolo family in Whitestone, pushing player character Percival to flee and enter into a vengeance pact with a shadow demon named Orthax.
While trying to stealth past a pack of undead looming near the portal, Scanlan's clumsiness alerted the undead, prompting Vax and Vex to try and do away with them quickly.Īfter disposing of one of them, a blue Dragonborn Wizard named Gern Blanston (portrayed by guest player Chris Hardwick) emerged to stop them. To replace the undead thrall they killed, the party allowed Gern to accompany them on their journey, at which point Vex'ahlia noticed a unique and intriguing item he had on his person: a flying broom.
In an effort to stem the flow of devastation still pouring from the tear between planes, Vox Machina lent their aid to the Fire Ashari. They ambush and kill the Briarwoods before the rematch and rush to the tower before either of them can come back to life, successfully averting the trope. In Episode 46, "Cindergrove Revisited", the party's visit to the Fire Ashari revealed the devastation of Thordak's escape from the Elemental Plane of Fire. As Vox Machina plans to fight Vecna a second time, they worry that they'll have to deal with the same lieutenants again and begin to plan counter-measures accordingly.
